The chipset will support AI functionality with Tensor Flow support. The Helio P40 will also confirm what is believed to be a new trend in 2018. Additionally, the Chipset will support up to 8GB of RAM LPDDR4x up to 1866Mhz, eMMC 5.1 and UFS 2.1. The P40 will also bring the support of up to 32MP cameras. A careful analysis of all the technical characteristics, to make it easier to read, is made by the table. Both processors went through battery life test and power consumption test. The chipset will be an Octa-Core consisting of Four 2.0Ghz A73 cores and Four A53 2.0Ghz A53 cores, the graphical power will be ensured by a Mali-G72 MP3 clocked at 700MHz. This performance comparison involves two processors: Snapdragon 820 MSM8996 is quad-core (Kryo 280) and Helio P70 is octa-core (ARM Cortex-A73). The Helio P40 isn’t a new guy for us since it already made early apparitions through 2017, but the news is the details being delivered by this new leak.
The pair of SoCs built at 12nm by TSMC are expected to arrive in Q2 2018, mixing the best of the High-end segment with the mid-range grade. According to a leak, the company is working in two chipsets, named as the Helio P40 and Helio P70.
#Helio p70 vs snapdragon 820 series
MediaTek SoCs still have a lot of ground to cover before they can match their Qualcomm counterparts in performance, and we hope that the P70 helps bridge that gap a little.In order to recover its market share by selling more chipsets, the company decided to put their focus totally in the mid-range segment where the Helio P series acts. It'll be interesting to see how the P70 holds up against the likes of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 and 710 in benchmarks and real-world use.
It's in production as we speak, and we can find it in phones starting this November. It is very likely that the P70 will mostly end up in similar handsets, targeted and sold primarily in emerging markets such as India and China. Its predecessor found itself mostly in $300-400 price range like the OPPO F9 Pro. MediaTek is targeting the Helio P70 at its existing market of mid-range devices priced in the $300-500 range. The P70's WorldMode modem supports 4G LTE at up to 300Mb/s with dual-sim support. The P70 gets the same NeruoPilot platform and SDK compatibility with other machine learning systems like TensorFlow, Caffe, and TF Lite. Interestingly, the Helio X30 puts a decent beating on Snapdragon 820 in both single and multicore tests, and generally keeps right up with Snapdragon 820 / 821 except in a couple of cases where the Snap 821 beats X30 handily (See OnePlus 3). It provides a 13% improvement over the GPU in the P60. There's also an AI-purposed multicore APU at up to 5.25MHz, and a Mali-G72 MP3 GPU at up to a 900MHz clock. The P70 uses TSMC's 12nm FinFet node with eight cores total: four A73 cores at 2.1GHz and four A53 cores at 2.0 GHz. The marketing focus this time around is on improved AI-related operations, subsequently improved camera performance and better gaming experience. Today, MediaTek has just revealed its new Helio P70 SoC, the successor to the Helio P60, which was announced earlier this year. A few days ago, it was rumoured that MediaTek would release a new SoC before October ends.
